Slugs don’t like beer

 Slugs 10 – Beer 0

Remember last weeks post when I was happily planning how to get rid of slugs?

Well, you heard it from me. I have caught not a single slug with my carefully laid out beer traps.

Don’t those fussy little slugs like cheap Lidl lager?

What do they expect?

That I’d spend my hard-earned cash on top brand beer?

Or crack open my very own favourite brand of lager and pour the little thugs a cool one with a nice dish of dry roasted peanuts on the side?

Well no, I’m not going to do that, but on the advice of a certain friend of mine, who is a very keen and more experienced gardener than me, I am going to collect my egg shells, crush them and surround my spinach with them.

I lost many, many spinach crops to the slugs in the past, and this year I am determined I am going to have spinach in my salad.

Why? Well, if you’re old enough to have seen Popeye, you’ll know why, and if not, well there’s Google for that and let’s just say I need all the help in the muscle department I can get right now.

And as you can see from this pathetic specimen, I need some luck as well.SLUG KILLER IMAGE OF SPINACH

So, please wish me luck with the eggshells.

I really, really, really don’t want to resort to slug pellets and to all those who suggest sneaking around the garden at night, with a torch, picking and squishing slugs off my plants…

I am not and I mean this, I am not going to go out every night and hand-pick slugs off my spinach.

I mean I’m busy enough what with the war on weeds, not to mention the rocks.

Bye for now.
