GUERILLA GARDENER ON THE LOOSE

My neighbours and I are very puzzled about this strange event. This lovely old water pump is just down the lane from me. I love it being so close. I pass it every day.

I feel like it holds the shadows of people who used it over the last century and I imagine the stories it could tell me – if only it could talk.

Lately it had become quite overgrown and almost hidden from view by tangles of briar.

Then some time during the last week, someone (no one knows who) came along and chopped away the briars and tidied up the area around it.

Someone also placed this seat in front of it. I say placed rather than dumped because it seems to be perfectly upright and I imagine a random dumper wouldn’t have bothered?  Maybe I’m wrong. Maybe dumpers care about aesthetics.

I wonder if the person who did the tidying did the dumping. Why would someone do that? Maybe as a seat to while away an hour? A very wet seat though.

Maybe it was just a random tidy-upper followed by a random dumper?

These are the things that perplex me on a Sunday afternoon when it’s too wet and cold to go and play outside in the garden…
