Valentines Day in the garden. Nature gives the most surprising presents and with the help of my little dog, Eppie, I found a real Valentines heart – of moss.

There isn’t a whole lot I can do in the garden on this wet, stormy, Galway Valentine’s day, so I am staying warm indoors writing this and later I will be working on a fiction story.

NATURE ROCKS

Valentine’s Day can be a lovely day, but it can also be over commercialized. That’s why I was delighted to find this little heart of moss down the lane from where I live – nature sure gives the best and most original of presents.

EPPIE – THE WONDER DOG

I was taking the photograph below of the view beyond this gate when my little dog, Eppie, started pulling onbrown-puppythe lead. I turned to see where she wanted to go and watched as she jumped up on a rock. When she jumped down I could see this lovely little mossy heart!  To be really honest I don’t know if I would have noticed this without Eppie. I had been taking photographs at this gate over the past few weeks because it  looks down the fields, to the rocks, over the bay and across to the mountains of the Burren. I pass this gate every day when I am out walking the dogs. I enjoy watching the change the tides make to the landscape over the particular rocky area between the fields and the sea.  I am always looking across the fields, not down! We have only had five-month-old Eppie a short while but she is a typical fun and adventure loving puppy and her enthusiasm for following her nose has caused a lot of my photographs to blur. I always have her lead wrapped around my wrist and she likes to pull on her lead at exactly the wrong moment! Still causing me to look down and find this mossy heart more than made up for all those blurry pictures, so thanks, little Eppie!

Anyway, I hope you all have a happy Valentine’s day, or, if you’re not into it and think it’s a load of slushy mush then I hope you have a happy whatever you want to call it day! This big bag of topsoil is what my husband gave me – talk about true love!
